Text Box: Hello Everyone
Can you believe that another month has come and gone? June was a very busy month for us here at the center. Throughout the month of June we went through several audits and assessment in preparation of our license renewal in August . We have just completed the final assessment for the year, our environmental rating scale. We will know the results of the assessment in about 6 weeks. Our other audits, DHS, Fire, and Health Department Immunizations were all at 100%. I would like to say thanks to all of our teachers and staff for the hard work throughout this licensing process. YOU GUYS are the BEST!!
As this DHS licensing year ends, we are continuing preparations for our visit for the Annual NAEYC Accreditation. This year starts new guidelines in many areas of our accreditation. I am happy to report that we submitted our annual report in April 2008 and we have maintained our accreditation until April 2009. The new process of accreditation takes about a year. So, we have already begun collecting information for our center and child portfolios for the upcoming year. We will submit our application for candidacy for NAEYC accreditation, under the new guidelines, in October 2008. When we are accepted, we will have a site visit some time between April and July 2009.
Don’t forget about submitting your favorite family recipes for our Village cookbook. We would like to begin working on the cookbook as soon as possible so that it can be ready in the Fall, just in time for you to try some of the recipes for your holiday dinners.

Until Next Month

Mrs. Nina

Presentation
Text Box: Building with blocks is lots of fun. It teaches many skills that children will use later in life. One study found that many of the concepts learned from block building are the foundations for more advanced science comprehension.

Playing in the block center helps children to experiment and learn about gravity, stability, weight balance, and systems. This learning center encourages children to use both fine and gross motor skills/muscles as they classify by shape, size and color. Additionally, children are able to explore concepts of depth, height, measurement, symmetry, and mapping. Language skills are enhanced as children talk about how to build and what to build. As children increase their language skills, they foster competence and self-esteem. Building blocks teaches cooperation and respect for the work of others.
